What makes our luxury list this week? That viral jacket from The Bear is back, Todd Snyder is opening another store, and Times Square just got a whole lot sweeter.
The seemingly innocuous woolen jacket worn by Jeremy Allen Whites character Carmy in The Bear currently has a 20,000 person waiting list. NN.07, the company that made the jacket in question (called The Gael), just opened in SoHo and will have a limited supply for sale in-store on September 7th. The store is styled with fall/winter goods, plus chic accessories including jewelry and accessories from Brooklyn-based jeweler Heath Wagoner, FoliePlusieurs fragrances, tote bags from Japanese brand Amiacalva, sunglasses from Garrett Leight, DOrsay candles and ceramics from Leslie Scanlon. The Gael Jacket will be available in limited quantities in-store only on September 7th, with an online release on September 9th.

This week marked the debut of Andile Dyalvane’s fourth show at Friedman Benda. Dyalvane, for the uninformed, is considered one of South Africa’s leading ceramic artists, whose pieces are in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others. Through his work he has always sought to honor his Xhosa heritage and his new play, Oonomathotholo: Whispers of the Ancestors, takes its title from the intergenerational whispers of the Xhosa people. It contains over a dozen pottery, many of them vessels, that bear records of ancient experience passed down through time.

Serendipity3 has just opened on West 47 Street, 70 years after it first debuted as a restaurant and general store on the Upper East Side. It’s attached to the OYO Times Square hotel and is helmed by chef Joe Calderone, with a menu that mimics the UES version (Frrrozen Hot Chocolate for the win!), albeit with new additions including a Sunday chicken dinner, an ice cream bar with three new flavors, as well as a convenient bar offering high-end cocktails. The interior was designed by Wid Chapman Architects, who channeled Andy Warhol (once a regular) through the artist’s signature pop art reproductions depicting Marilyn Monroe, the late Queen Elizabeth II and more.

TriBeCas Galerie56, strategically located on the street level of the infamous 56 Leonard (aka Jenga) building, just debuted an exhibition alongside London’s Sarah Myerscough Gallery. Shades of Light features works that celebrate organic materials and some pretty remarkable craftsmanship, including the Full Grown Willow Chairs grown over many years from a single tree, cast in bronze for the first time, turned wooden vessels by Ernst Gamperl , winner of the 2017 Loewe First Prize, and the Eleanor Lakelins horse chestnut bowl (in the permanent collections of the Museum of Art and Design, New York and the V&A, London). There’s more, of course, with the bonus of an Anish Kapoor sculpture right outside.
